Cooking Chinese 101
Whenever a person says Chinese food many would think takeout food. That is because Chinese takeout is popular in many Western countries. A lot of people are thinking that having Chinese food is healthier as compared to other alternatives. Besides, the fact that it is more or less faster to cook than other types of takeout food is a nice touch for busy people. But did it ever occur to these people how authentic Chinese food is made? There are a lot of ways on how to cook different Chinese food.
One of the classic Chinese cooking methods that are used in many Chinese homes and restaurants around the world is chao or more popularly known as stir-fry. As the name implies, stir-frying is the ability of the cook to toss and turn several ingredients in a small amount of oil over high heat. With this method, flavor of vegetables and meat become more pronounced.
Another more popular way of cooking Chinese food is by steaming or ching. In steaming, different foods can be placed one over the other onto a stack of bamboo trays that is places above boiling water. It is then covered to surround the food with steam which in turn will cook the food. There are a handful of different kinds of Chinese food that are cooked using steaming: fish, vegetables and dumplings are some.
One of the more authentic ways of cooking Chinese cuisine is by red cooking or red stewing. Basically this is the method wherein food such as meat, vegetables and sometimes tofu is immersed into boiling water with soy sauce. Soy sauce will be the one that will give the flavor to the food.
The three mentioned above are some of the ways on how to cooked Chinese food. All of these are brought by Chinese wherever they go so everyone, regardless of nationality can enjoy the taste of China.
